In the parable of The Two Worshipers, Jesus puts His finger on a very sensitive nerve: religious people can be fatally self-deceived. God is not looking for a self-righteous religious show. He’s looking for humble self-awareness of our unrighteousness. To be in the right relationship with God, we must recognize that there is nothing we can do to make ourselves right with God. Instead, we are utterly dependent on His mercy, which He eagerly and freely bestows.
