If you’ve been considering buying a 996 and are wondering what it could be like, here’s an inside look! All cars have maintenance and repairs needed, so don’t let that prevent you from getting one…

Basic DIY Maintenance for 2 years and 30,000 miles:
Oil change, tires (1 set of fronts and 2 sets of rears), air filter, cabin air filter, wipers, belt, aka normal stuff
Total: $2800 (tires being the bulk of it)
DIY Repairs ASIDE from intermix-related:
Water pump, oil filler tube, oil pressure sending unit, side markers, headlight corner trim, fan resistors, aka non-planned maintenance
Total: $900
Direct Intermix DIY Repairs:
Head repair by HAMHeads, gaskets, seals, O-rings, new micro-encapsulated fasteners, fluids (multiple oil and coolant flushed), aka the necessary items to remove, dismantle, and reinstall the engine/transmission
Total: $3000
While-The-Engine-Is-Out Maintenance:
Spark plugs, coil packs, AOS, low temp thermostat, oil cooler, slave cylinder for transmission, aka might as well while it’d easy to reach
Total: $950
Oops-I-Screwed-Up labor:
Correct timing, clean silicone from heads, slave cylinder and bleeding
Total: $2500
Tools I Didn’t Have To Remove Engine:
Transmission jack, miscellaneous hand tools
Total: $600
Purchase of Car (2020 prices):
Total: $17,800
Pick Up Car and Drive Home:
2 plane tickets from MS to CA, fuel for 2500 miles, 4 hotel rooms and meals for two
Total: $1400 (could have had it shipped for $500)
Fuel:
Average price per gallon, figured liberally for hard driving
Total: $4900
