…Cassandra rose in the pale dawn, a thin sliver of watery light showing under a vast dark, pall of Gloom. Gathering together her possessions she said farewell to her companions at the base of the path that led onto the Barrow Moor. A chill wind was coming down off the tops bringing with it a fine, stinging sleet.

After an hours climb she reached the flat moor. It stretched for miles pock marked with clusters of ancient stone tors sticking up out of the peat bogs like rotting teeth. In front of one these tors stood the banners of the Marquis streaming in the wintry gale. The ancient himself stood at the bottom of a shallow but wide valley his gauntleted hands resting on the hilt of his huge black sword. Cassandra walked down into the gully and drew her weapon. The Ancient said nothing but slowly raised his mighty sword and strode forward…
