Berlin Alexanderplatz may not be the most beautiful square in Berlin. Yet is has it's very own dynamic that is equal to no other place.
The strange mix of ugly worn out building blocks of the communist era, the grand monuments and public art (such as the world clock) from the same time-frame, the extravagance of western stlye shops and fast-food outlets, the stange undefined shape of the place, the intimidating TV Tower almost leaning over the square, the mish mash of commuters, shoppers, street artists, tourists and homeless people that constantly traverse the place, it's a total unique combination that keeps fascinating me time and time again.
The weird thing is that late at night, Alexanderplatz is totally abandoned. Especially during wintertime, Alexanderplatz can look like the central square of a ghost town past midnight...
