Tenryū-ji (天龍寺), founded in 1339, is the first of the five Zen-temples in Kyoto.Today it belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto".
Sogenchi (曹源池), the garden of Tenryū-ji, is made in the style of Chisen Kaiyu-shiki (池泉回遊式) and means roughly strolling garden. The garden remains almost unchanged to this day.
