ABOUT ME
I am Ronald Gregory Nohe, and I am humbled to present myself as a candidate for Sheriff of Washington County, Ohio. With a rich background in both military service and law enforcement, I am dedicated to protecting and serving our community with unwavering commitment and integrity.
I was born at the Amarillo Air Force Base in Amarillo, Texas to Jack and Helen Nohe. I have four siblings Steve, Cathy, Jeff and Laura. I married Kim in 2009. I have four children: Sara (and husband David), Lacey, Austyn (and wife Allyson), and Taylor and have been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren: Kinley, Olivia and Jaxyn.
My journey began in 1982 in the United States Army serving our country with the 549th Military Police (MP) Company at Fort Gulick, Panama. I also had the privilege of serving as a paratrooper and jumpmaster with the 118th Military Police (MP) Company Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. These experiences instilled in me a deep sense of discipline, leadership and a commitment to excellence and upholding the law.
Following my honorable and decorated military service, I embarked on a fulfilling career at the City of Marietta Police Department. Starting as a uniform patrolman in 1987, I honed my skills and knowledge, progressing through the ranks as a detective, and as an agent with the Washington County Major Crimes Task Force working primarily high profile cases and organized crime. With a strong dedication to public safety, I served as a uniform patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, and ultimately, as the Captain of Police for the Marietta Police Department. I proudly served the Marietta and the surrounding community for 29 years before retiring and accepting a position as Deputy Sheriff with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 2016.
I had the privilege of serving the Washington County Sheriff’s Office as a captain and later promoted to major and was assigned to the jail division as jail administrator. I served in this capacity for over 5 years. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into the corrections system, furthering my commitment to maintaining a fair and effective criminal justice system in our community.
Service to our country and community runs deep in my family. My grandfather, Dock, bravely served in World War 1. My father, Jack, dedicated his life to a career in the military having retired from the United States Air Force. My brothers, Steve and Jeff, are both military veterans and retired police officers. I am immensely proud of my uncles: Joe, Pete, Ron and Ed, whom all served our nation as military veterans of World War 2 and Korea. My mother’s brother, Lyle, retired as a United States Army Military Police Officer and Special Forces Green Beret having also served in Vietnam. It was an honor and privilege to have made an airborne jump from a c130 along-side my uncle Lyle before his retirement from the United States Army.
Beyond my professional life, I am blessed with a loving family. My wife, Kim, a true partner in this journey, serves as the Utility Administrator for the City of Marietta and her love and support has been invaluable throughout. Together, we have four incredible children who inspire me every day. Our daughter, Sara is a licensed x-ray technologist and operates a private business. Our daughter, Lacey, proudly serves as a uniform police officer in Durham, N.C. Our son, Austyn, bravely serves as a City of Marietta Firefighter. Our youngest daughter, Taylor, also works in the healthcare industry. The children remind me of the importance of our collective well-being and motivate me to ensure a safe and thriving community for all.
With a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to service, I am eager to bring my passion, experience, leadership and dedication to the role of Sheriff of Washington County. Together let’s build a safer, stronger community for all.
