Hey everybody, Cooper here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima SkinnyWarrior on our 2022 GMC Terrain. Now, why might you need something like the SkinnyWarrior Well, if you have additional luggage or cargo that you can't quite fit in your vehicle or maybe it's something that is a little bit dirty, maybe a little bit muddy and you don't want it on the inside of your vehicle, the SkinnyWarrior is going to provide us an excellent opportunity to be able to still carry that on our vehicle without having it inside our vehicle. Now, our basket is going to be made out of a black powder-coated steel, which just means that's a very strong construction being made of steel, meaning any of our bars are going to be excellent tie down points. And even though it is made of steel, it still comes in at about 23 pounds, which is pretty lightweight, and that black powder coat finish is going to help us stand up to the elements and be pretty corrosion resistant. Now, any time you use this, you maybe end up scuffing or scratching it, that means we are going to be more prone to some corrosion in those areas.
Now, our basket does have a 165 pound weight capacity but make sure that you are aware of the weight capacities for your crossbars and your roof as well, just to make sure that we are accommodating to the lowest component possible and we're not overbearing any of our systems and causing any unnecessary damage. Speaking of our crossbars, we have our SkinnyWarrior on some arrow crossbars here today, but it will work with most factory and aftermarket crossbar systems. They're held into place by these clamps here, which are just kind of spinned on and help clamp around the system. There are some rubber padding on the top just to help protect your crossbars from any unnecessary damage. Taking a look up here at the front, we do have this front bearing, which just helps cut down on some of that wind noise and drag that comes with putting something on top of your roof.
Looking at the backup though, we do have these knobs here, which means that it is removable. So if we we're to go to somewhere like the hardware store and pick up really long pieces of two by four that couldn't fit inside of our terrain, we have the ability to sort of feed it through and strap it down and accommodate for something like that. Taking a look towards the front, we do have 47 inch crossbars on here today but we are using up less than half of that space. Part of that is because we do have enough overhang to clamp down on but even if we didn't, I would say it probably would only take up a little more than half. So if we had additional accessories, like a J Style Kayak Carrier or maybe a bike rack, we have more than enough space to accommodate for that as well.
One nice thing about the SkinnyWarrior is its ability to be somewhat adjustable. Even though we have these clamps, they can move between the bars. So while it's not totally adjustable, it is adjustable within certain segments, so that helps it accommodate on different crossbar spreads. And even with it on the little configuration that we have it on today where it's kind of a very close in crossbar spread, we do still have the ability to have that full hatch access. So if we need to access something in the back of our vehicle, we have more than enough space to do so.
That being said, there is a 16 inch extension kit for the SkinnyWarrior and obviously, we do not have any room to add onto the back here and with the roof rack system we have on here today, we can't actually move this any forward, but if you had a roof rack system that could possibly clamp more towards this gap in the front, we would be able to add on that 16 inch extension kit with probably just a little bit more confidence having that weight distributed a little more evenly than our system here offers today. Overall, I do think the Yakima SkinnyWarrior is a really nice rooftop cargo basket. Its ability to be on the thinner side, not taking up too much of our crossbar space is really nice, and the fact that I can hold those longer items that might not fit our GMC Terrain or just some additional luggage. The fact that it is a tool-free installation with those knobs that just tighten down and help clamp onto it is a pretty cool thing, meaning that we don't have to keep track of any additional tools. If you did wanna switch to
