We will be sharing with you how we made raw goat cheese for the first time. We picked out a recipe that uses only three simple ingredients: 1 Quart Milk, 1/3 Cup Lemon Juice, Salt to taste. Watch us attempt to make our very first batch of cheese from our new lamacha dairy goat.
We also use this cooking opportunity to learn about dairy as we homeschool. Learning about food and how its processed and cooked can be so educational. The kids learned about how milk separate into curds and whey. We also learned all the different ways that you can use whey like feeding whey to your chickens for protein, diluting whey to water your plants to give them nutrients, and soaking grains in whey. Caleb explains that grains, oats, nuts and legumes contain phytic acid which blocks special minerals like calcium, zinc, and iron. Soaking your grains in an acidic medium for up to 7 hours is the best way to neutralize phytic acid so your body can absorb those minerals.
We are so thankful for all the milk these dairy goats will provide. We can’t wait to try all the things goat milk can make like goat cheese, butter, yogurt, and goat soap. These goats bring our family so much joy.
Don’t forget to watch Kaylee and Brooke as they put together a hilarious short sketch of the famous nursery rhyme, “Little Miss Muffet.” There are also bloopers at the end of this video. We had so much fun putting together this YouTube video for Fisher Priceless this week. If you enjoyed our video Make sure you subscribe so you will be notified when we make new videos. Thank you for watching!
