Once the coin dies have been made, he sets one die on the bottom side, puts a blank coin in the middle, and puts the other coin die on the top side. Once this is set up, he takes a hammer and beats the impression into the coin. Voilà, a coin has been made!
For anyone curious about what exactly the 'SCA' is -- The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international, non-profit educational organization that studies and recreates the medieval and Renaissance years of 600-1600AD.
