In this episode of Newspeak, security & privacy expert Richard Bingley argues that Britain is sleepwalking into a massive surveillance culture and that the Health Protection Act Regulations of 2020 merely bring these sweeping powers into line.
Bingley argues that we see dog walkers getting tracked by drones whilst terrorists that should be tracked are lost by police forces drowning in information overload. Whilst the Government has pledged that Huawei will not be part of future plans to roll out 5G, Richard Bingley believes that an equal risk comes from the privately owned American tech giants that hold so much of our private data and communications. Government data is also badly protected and at constant risk from cyber criminals. Bingley believes part of the solution to this situation is for Britain to make British values into digital values and establish London as a centre of cyber ethics.
