Scratch building a Ryan’s Rebel stick style R/C airplane:
Episode 12, Meet the Motor
Today I gloss over the propulsion system for the aircraft. This is a US 41/42 2 cycle gasolene engine. It will be fitted with a 18x6 ish prop for this plane. I used this engine on a previous airplane, and it was a good performer. The carburator diaphram was worn out and not holding a prime so my flying buddy Mark and I replaced it, and a new compact muffler was added. I will remove the spring starter on the rear of this motor and hopefully that will remove some of the nose weight from the overall frame. I will get more in depth on the engine further on. These little gas engines are awesome for use on model aircraft, reliable, cheap and very available in many different configurations. If you have engine questions, fire away in the comment section below. If I see it, I will answer it.
