Today my topic is wire mapping or wire map testing. Wire mapping is simple testing that confirms each wire of a twisted pair cable is connected correctly to the corresponding pin at the far end.

Specifically, wire map testing checks for five common connection problems: reversed pairs, crossed pairs, split pairs, open, and short. Let me demonstrate these five-wire mapping problems in the next several minutes.
