Crocodiles, orangutans and snakes were among the animals under threat as fire crews tried to bring the fire at the Cheshire attraction, which is home to around 21,000 animals, under control. Pictures and video showed huge clouds of black smoke (pictured left and top right) pouring out of the zoo's Monsoon Forest enclosure (bottom right, file photo). The zoo said fire crews were working to control the blaze, which broke out around 11.30am, and bring the animals to safety with police and ambulance services also on the scene. Ambulance services have not had to treat any human patients but there is no word yet on the fate of the animals in the enclosure. One witnesss at the 125-acre park said they saw keepers taking 40 animals to safety, while another said: 'It's very upsetting to see and judging by the speed I watched the fire grow, I'll be surprised if there are no animal casualties.'
