BLACK PERCH CATCH AND COOK
Something cool about free diving is what your body does when it’s submerged in cold water. When trying to maintain homeostasis, it burns massive amounts of calories because of the heat loss being experienced. If you want to get ripped and lose a couple pounds, this is a sure fire way to do it.
There are only three species of “true perch”, however thousands of species of fish are referred to as perch by anglers. Don’t let the editing skills fool you, spearing this fish was no easy task. I had over 15 misses before I finally nailed one of them down.
This is my first time eating this fish and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. I think about this fish every single day (I’m not kidding). The way it was cooked to perfection, the skin was crispy, it’s everything you want in a fish dinner.
Using a pole spear was a lot of fun, I had one when I was younger but had never gotten good with it. On top of that, the skill of holding your breath under water goes hand and hand with free diving. I am only able to hold my breath for about 30 seconds so this is difficult; I plan to sharpen these skills massively in the coming months.
Some other creatures in the area that are edible are various species of sea urchin, key hole limpet, multiple kelp species, wavy turban snails, octopus, other fish, etc…. Catch and cooks in several species mentioned coming soon!!

RECIPE:
Wild Black Perch
Butter
Olive Oil
Minced Garlic
Onion Powder
Garlic
Salt
Pepper
2 Eggs (optional)
Start by scaling and gutting your fish thoroughly. Once finished, score your fish and stuff the scores with a generous amount of butter. Next, add your seasonings, and add to a pan of oil that is already hot (you want the fish to start sizzling instantly when it hits the pan). Let each side cook for about 3.5 minutes (or until golden brown, use your best judgment. Cook times may vary depending on size of fish). Once satisfied with coloring, kick back and enjoy your masterpiece.
