The Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah signed his 5th final victory in a car, the second consecutive, in the Dakar rally-raid, Sunday in Dammam, at the arrival of the 14th and last stage of the 45th edition disputed from December 31 to 15 January in Saudi Arabia.
At the end of the 136 km of the last special won by the Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit, Al-Attiyah, associated with the Frenchman Mathieu Baumel, leads Sebastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin in the final classification by 1h20:49. Third place on the podium went to Brazilian Lucas Moraes and German Timo Gottschalk at 1h38:31.
He is now the only second driver to count the most victories in cars behind the 8 victories of Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel, who also signed 6 in motorcycles. The Finn Ari Vatanen is now third in this ranking with 4 successes.
