Assam team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption nabbed the registrar of Bhattadev Univerisity in Assam’s Bajali district on Saturday. The registrar identified as Guru Prasad Khataniar was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe from a resident of Guwahati. According to the state’s Vigilance Cell statement, Khataniar demanded a sum of Rs One lakh as a bribe for releasing a bill of a PWD contractor. A case has been registered against the registrar under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Meanwhile, locals of Bajali including several social activists, suspect the involvement of other university officials in the corruption circle and have demanded an inquiry into the matter.
