US President Joe Biden addressed the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in San Francisco on Thursday, where he spoke about the United States' engagement in the Pacific region.

"Because of us, there has been peace and security in the region, allowing you to grow," Biden said.

He emphasized the country's commitment to improving labour standards and upholding the commitment to labour unions. “Each of the framework pillars includes strong pro-labour outcomes that will benefit workers in all economies. It’s critical to building a stronger, fairer, more resilient economy for families across the Pacific,” he added.

He also stressed that the US is “diversifying” its economic relationship with China, but “not decoupling”.

Biden expressed the need for a stable relationship between the US and China, saying, “A stable relationship between the world's two largest economies is not merely good for the two economies but for the world.”
