RGV College is celebrating the commencement of its inaugural Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program. Under the program, a cohort of 12 nursing students are learning theory in the classroom at the college for the part of the week, and getting paid while getting practical experience at DHR Health during the other part of the week. The program has been endorsed by the Texas Board of Nursing. The program means a lot to Victor Perez, president of Pharr Economic Development Corporation. Pharr EDC recently provided a grant to Pharr-based RGV College recently. And Perez was on the PSJA ISD school board when the first high school students from the area started learning to become nurses. Here is an interview with the Pharr EDC chief.
