The Japanese Izumo Class Aircraft Carriers are two aircraft carriers operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). These ships are the largest aircraft carriers ever owned by Japan and are an important part of the JMSDF fleet.
The Izumo Class aircraft carrier is 248 meters long, 38 meters wide and weighs 27,000 tons. The ship has a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 10,000 nautical miles.
The Izumo Class aircraft carriers are equipped with advanced weapons systems and defense systems. The weapon system will consist of 120 SM-3 anti-aircraft missiles, 16 Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and 8 Mk 41 vertical guided missile systems. The defense system will consist of the Phalanx CIWS missile defense system, the SeaRAM missile defense system, and the electronic countermeasures system.
