So often we think of boundaries as something we set cognitively or just “say.”
But here’s what’s actually true:
👉 Boundaries are determined by our internal truth and limits, which live in our bodies (not just our minds).
If we’re only setting boundaries based on what we think we “should” do — or what other people tell us we should do — chances are that these boundaries might not actually feel supportive and we’ll likely set them from a place of dysregulation.
This often leads us to setting boundaries that are self-protective rather than boundaries that are aligned with our highest truth.
This is why nervous system regulation is so important!
Only once we are closer to regulation, meaning we feel present, grounded, and “here,” can we come in contact with what our highest truth really is.
From there, we can begin stepping toward setting boundaries that help us to thrive in our relationships, jobs, family, finances, and more.
