🩺 Tips for using your stethoscope🩺
Where are my new nursing students at?! 🙋
On my page I always try to cover the most basic skills for those just starting out. The worst feeling in the world is when you’re unsure of how to do something, but feel uncomfortable asking. First of all, you’re LEARNING! So, channel that confidence to ask. It will pay off ten-fold. I promise.
In the meantime, I’ve got your back 🙂 So here are some tips on how to use your handy dandy stethoscope!
1. Ear pieces should be pointed forward, toward your face. Insert them with the pieces facing ahead.
2. If you can’t hear anything when you’re listening, don’t panic! Simply rotate the stem, which holds the dial/gear.
💡Memory trick: If you can't hear… turn the gear!
3.The bell (smaller side/circle) is used for low-pitched sounds such as heart murmurs
4. The diaphragm (larger side/circle) is used for high-pitched sounds such as lungs & heart sounds
5. Disinfect with a safe disinfectant after each patient. Remember that the chest piece surface is touching multiple patients per day. Don’t spread those germs!
Good luck in your nursing journey! 🩺👩⚕️👨⚕️

A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣
My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
Nurse In The Making was inspired during my time in nursing school. I immediately struggled and decided to create my own study guides. These guides have helped me personally as well as many others make nursing school just a little more manageable.I hope you find comfort knowing that everyone struggles at times. Nursing school is emotionally and physically draining. I hope these informative, clean, and simple guides help you navigate through all the information because there is A LOT of it in nursing school.
Happy Studying Future Nurses. Don't forget to enjoy the journey!
