The most difficult part of an IVF cycle is the 2 weeks waiting time after the embryo transfer, the basis of the home pregnancy test is the detection of the human chronic gonadotropin hormone which is produced by the fetal trophoblastic cells. The timing of doing a home pregnancy in an IVF cycle is basically depends upon whether it is frozen embryo transfer or a fresh embryo transfer, if it is a fresh embryo transfer, then we should not do a home pregnancy test very early like 10 to 12 th day or 7 to 10 days because the injection hCG which is being used to trigger ovulation in fresh embryo transfer can persist in the blood for a little longer period maybe upto 10 days also and it can give a false positive test but if it is a frozen embryo transfer then hCG injection is not being used. So we can do a home pregnancy after 10 to 12 days but ideal way of doing the pregnancy test after IVF cycle, we will do the blood test, that is the beta hCG , and it should be repeated after 48 hours.
