In our first article of the day, we talk about the impact of methane on global warming and discuss the viability of methane-capture technology on future warming projections. One of the great challenges to this is that methane is very dilute in the atmosphere (about 2 parts per million) even though it is a much more potent green house gas (GHG) than carbon dioxide. For comparison, we looked at current examples of CO2 capture that are currently on line and discussed their high energy needs and how this undermines their efforts at environmental improvement. Perhaps the energy needs of methane capture could be offset by burning the methane to help fuel the capture process. If so, this could offer a more sustainable way to improve our atmosphere's composition.
In our second conversation today, we discuss an article by Avi Loeb on whether or not we may be thinking in the wrong way and prematurely limiting our search for extraterrestrial life.
In this channel, we talk about the most interesting science news and research articles of the day. Thanks for watching!
