In this video we take a look at the sand mining, more specifically illegal mining, and the effects it may have on e.g. beaches. Sand is a crucial component in modern day industry and construction and is used in anything from concrete to glass and filter systems. However, whereas its extraction contributes to global economic growth the impact it has on a local level can in some cases be devastating.

This short video merely scratches the surface of an important matter, which can take many shapes depending on where it is performed. Therefore I would like to highlight one of the sources in particular, Pascal Peduzzi's 'Sand, rarer than one thinks', which in detail discusses the problem and proposes concrete solutions.
