One of the most noticeable characters among the celestial court army in the beginning cutscene of Black Myth Wukong is the big blue giant, who had a Erlang Shen on his shoulder, but who exactly is he? He is never seen again in the game after the opening, leaving fans wondering about his identity.

There are some speculations that he is general Li Jing, one of the highest commanders of the Jade Emperor or even the Jade Emperor himself but based on his appearance and that he seems to be only part of the celestial army, his actions during Wukong and erlang Shen’s fight, he is highly likely to be Juling Shen from “Journey to the West”. Juling Shen is also a general of the Jade Emperor, he is a river god who split Mount Hua in half so that his river can flow east, which does add to the explanation of his size. He was actually one of the first generals that the Jade emperor sent to capture Sun Wukong during his rebellious days, but Sun Wukong easily bests him, which could also explain why Sun Wukong was unphased seeing the big blue giant in the beginning.

In Black Myth: Wukong, Bull King is forced to fight Wukong once again, this time as part of Heaven’s plan. He joins in the fight with the rest of the Yaoguia kings and Wukong is eventually defeated. Wukong dies in Bull King’s arms, telling him that submitting to Heaven didn’t grant the freedom either of them sought, and Bull King had once again made the wrong decision. After Wukong’s death, Bull King is once again tasked with guarding Wukong’s body relic, further proving that he will always be a pawn of Heaven, even in enlightenment. He returns home, broken and weakened, mourning the loss of his old friend, a shadow of his former self. His misfortune never seems to end.
