Today we have a very interesting guest, a friend, and professional college of mine. Ali Rizvi, CEO of Litigation Services.

Ali immigrated to the United States from Pakistan in 1981, and went to school Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he received his undergraduate and MBA. He was a health care executive for many years and then went into banking, then he became the president of a local bank, which was then bought out by Bank of America. Then in 1991 Bank of America moved him to Las Vegas to run the banks as a district manager for Southern Nevada.
After a few years, he left Bank of America and joined with Cardinal Health, then in 2006, he went back into Banking, then left them to get into Litigation Services.

Litigation Services offers court reporting, trial presentations, forensics. Basically, helping the lawyers with support that will help them win their case.

Ali’s company is well known within the legal system. He joined in 2015 and by Feb 2016 he took over as CEO. When he became the CEO, he turned the company around. They were in trouble but now it is one of the top 3 companies in the United States for Court Reporting, and Litigations Support Services. It took a team to turn the company around. Give them the right authority and move out of the way and let them do what they do, and everything was turned around. Litigation Services has 40 offices Nationwide.

How has COVID-19 impacted Litigation Services? During April and May there was nothing coming in. We were trying and fortunate enough to keep a lot of people on pay roll. In June we started seeing more jobs come in and we were able to save most of our employees.

Litigation Services was pushing remote services since last year, but many lawyers wanted to do everything in person. Due to COVID-19 that changed, and now the new normal is remote services. Which brings up to court reporting and the reporters. How does one become a court reporter? How much does a court reporter make?

A good court reporter can earn between $100,000 to half a million dollars a year, and yet there is a shortage of court reporters. If someone is interested in becoming a court reporter, we will sponsor them and put them through school as long as they sign a 3-year contract with us. To become a court reporter, they go to school and take online classes. They must pass a test and mimic a court reporter and then the final test to be considered a valid and certified court reporter.
