There is a ton of information available online explaining how to tap maple trees for backyard maple syrup production. Everything from how big a maple tree should be to tap it, to how many taps you can put in each of your maple trees based on their size. We have a number of trees in our sugar bush that are dying, and we'll be cutting them down to thin out the canopy, and allow more light to reach the smaller trees closer to the ground. We decided to maximize the amount of sap we can pull out of some of these trees before we cut them down after the sap stops flowing this season.
