What do you get when you remove the word neighbor from (neighbor)hood... You get left with the word "Hood!" This is just a creative way for me to title my segments. Rather then saying "Philadelphia Neighborhoods"... its Philadelphia Hoods!

Fairmount is a neighborhood within Lower North Philadelphia.[1] Its boundaries are north of Fairmount Avenue, west of Corinthian Avenue, south of Girard Avenue and east of The Schuylkill River.[2][3] While this may be the most accurate demarcation, the area's boundaries fluctuate depending how the neighborhood is defined. Several other neighborhoods near Fairmount are sometimes also collectively called Fairmount, including: Spring Garden, Franklintown and Francisville.[2][4] Fairmount and neighboring Spring Garden are commonly referred to as the "Art Museum Area," for their proximity to and association with the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Fairmount is also the location of the Eastern State Penitentiary.

The name "Fairmount" derives from the prominent hill on which the Philadelphia Museum of Art now sits and where William Penn intended to build his manor house. Later, the name was applied to the street originally called Hickory Lane that runs from the foot of Fairmount Hill through the heart of the neighborhood.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is an art museum originally chartered in 1876 for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.[2] The main museum building was completed in 1928[6] on Fairmount, a hill located at the northwest end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Eakins Oval.[1] The museum administers collections containing over 240,000 objects including major holdings of European, American and Asian origin.[3] The various classes of artwork include sculpture, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, armor, and decorative arts.[3]

The Philadelphia Museum of Art administers several annexes including the Rodin Museum, also located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and the Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building, which is located across the street just north of the main building.[7] The Perelman Building, which opened in 2007,[8] houses more than 150,000 prints, drawings and photographs, along with 30,000 costume and textile pieces, and over 1,000 modern and contemporary design objects including furniture, ceramics and glasswork.[9] The museum also administers the historic colonial-era houses of Mount Pleasant and Cedar Grove, both located in Fairmount Park.[10] The main museum building and its annexes are owned by the City of Philadelphia and administered by a registered nonprofit corporation.[7]

Several special exhibitions are held in the museum every year, including touring exhibitions arranged with other museums in the United States and abroad.[11][12] The attendance figure for the museum was 793,000 in 2017
