Whenever there is a complaint regarding alleged child abuse or neglect, the Department of Children and Families or the local sheriff's office will sometimes send out a child protection investigator to look into the basis for that complaint. If the child protection investigator believes that enough information exists to substantiate that complaint then the Department of Children and Families may require the caregiver of that child to undergo services or sometimes remove the child from the custody of that caregiver.
