For my final feature of Dungeon Synth Sunday this week, I am honoured to present the latest album from Forgotten Relic, along with the news of its cassette release through Moonworshipper Records later this year – by some serendipitous chance, the second Lord Bill release I am featuring today.
Cult of the Jewelled Dagger is a beautiful, lugubriously paced album of dark dungeon doom, that makes me feel like I’m in a heavily opiated version of Mogwai’s CODY, with its sighing melodic lines of sombre melancholy recalling the haunting moods of that album, as well as addictively deep echoes of the decaying hauntological hypnogogia of Ghöest.
This is an instantly transportive album of a rich darkness that hides many emotive secrets within its resonant layers, it is one that I have immersed myself in many times over in the weeks that I have been playing it, and will no doubt continue to do so for some time.

DSS intro banners for June feature the work of Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1802-1862 ) – a Dutch landscape artist and lithographer, widely regarded as the most accomplished landscape painter of Dutch romanticism. After honing his arts in the lowlands of Zeeland, he moved to Germany where he painted his most important landscapes, ranging from perilously perched castled, extensive river valleys to idyllic forest views dominated by one or more oaks.
