As Professor Jeffrey Sachs answers my question about the development of the Capital Markets in Uzbekistan, he talks about the institutional and geographic challenges that Uzbekistan faces. He says that Uzbekistan can be a center for tourism, trade, finance and commerce, but only if there is a global cooperation not in a splintered world, but there is Eurasian wide integrated economy. The best friend of Uzbekistan’s development is a cooperative development that then builds infrastructure; fast rail, 5G connectivity and renewable energy grid. Uzbekistan should be a powerhouse in wind and solar power and should be exporting it to other parts of the Eurasia, which would exist if there were a large scale grid like the Chinese want to build, and interconnected energy system.
The idea of Uzbekistan is a kind of a central hub for lots of Eurasian economic activity and that would develop interest in many different sectors. To have this happen Uzbekistan needs also to develop its digital capacities, know how, because digital will be at the core of everything; of transport, banking, Finance, telecommunications of every kind. Uzbekistan has a unique geography, so it is especially important to think geographically in the economic development strategy.”
