In the past 3 weeks, 2 NEET aspirants suicides have been reported from Tamil Nadu both claiming that the students took their lives allegedly due to pressure exerted by NEET exam.
On Wednesday, 19-year-old Vignesh, a resident of Senthurai village in Ariyalur was found dead in a farm well. His parents allege that was preparing for NEET and was depressed because of it which led to his suicide.
Incidentally, Vignesh was from Ariyalur district, the same place from where NEET issue struck the whole of Tamil Nadu, after Anita, a Medical Aspirant spearheaded the movement against NEET but unfortunately committed suicide after NEET was not scrapped in 2017.
Villagers from Ariyalur created a stir on Wednesday demanding NEET to be scrapped claiming it to be against the interest of the students from a poor background.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami immediately reacted by announcing 7 lakh rupees as solatium to the family and offering a government job to one family member.
On the meantime, DMK Youth Wing leader and MK Stalin's son, Udhayanidhi visited Vigesh's family to express his condolence, offering 5 lakh rupees from DMK party.
Udhayanidhi blamed AIADMK for such deaths claiming that it is a slave government ruling Tamil Nadu and that's why they are unable to get exemption unlike during the period of Karunanidhi or Jayalalitha.
