This is a playthrough using Oboro (blue sword) in the PS1 game Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage. Read on below for more information...
Oboro is the end boss for some of the characters in Story Mode, and he is a non-selectable character.
There are two versions of him - a blue sword and a red spear, which both are different characters in the game's code. Both are unplayable.
===== ABOUT OBORO =====
Oboro is an old man who was once a highly-respected ninja when he was much younger. He was forced to leave the clan after Hanzo Hattori defeated him in a duel, leaving his reputation tarnished. He became a hateful person as a result, and dedicated himself into learning dark magic and gathers several cursed weapons for this purpose. He devotes himself to the earthly Buddha Jigen Tashi, and spends the next twenty years plotting the government's downfall, with the goals of establishing a new nation for his God and to avenge his disgrace by Hanzo.
During this time, he trains an army of skilled Amazon fighters, as well as forming the Razor Trio (or "Three Blades of Domination"), which consists of three powerful fighters - Tohma, Mikoto, and Oboro himself.
Oboro was defeated and slain by Haohmaru when the latter was looking for his niece, Mikoto.
His two weapons, the sword and spear, are called The Blade of the Silent Curse and the Spear of Forbidden Destruction respectively. Both are controlled with his magic, which is his fighting style named The Magic Ways of Oboro.
===== GAMEPLAY / APPEARANCE =====
In the game's artwork and 3D FMV scenes he appears as an old man, but in the actual fights he appears as only the sword. It does use his voice though. In storyline terms he is controlling the sword from afar. He is fully playable with no problems in gameplay.
===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====
---- On the character select screen, his cursor position is above the top row of characters to the left.
---- On the character select screen, he has no image portrait. His name text is also glitched.
---- You cannot play through the Story Mode with him. After you select him in this mode, you'll just be taken to the Save/Load screen repeatedly.
---- You can only play through the Story Mode with him using a certain method.
---- His weapons are inscribed with stylistic eyes and designs, similar to those engraved on Deku & Dekuina's (from Samurai Shodown 64) and Asura's weapons.
---- The game is also known as "New Chapter of Samurai Spirits, Strange Tale of the Swordsman: Revival of the Blue and Red Blade".
===== ABOUT SS:WR =====
As part of one of the most respected fighting game franchises, this game could have been actually been good if they implemented better gameplay to it... instead, there's too much stopping and starting due to it's unique lifebar/round system, and the jumping is way overdone. The game is also kind of "bland" overall, and for the most part "suffers" from the Samurai Shodown "environmental-only" soundtracks (whether this is a good or a bad thing is up to you).
Aside from the above, the game does shine by having a large roster of characters and detailed story dialogues between them (when you're playing through Story Mode). There are also some good FMV cutscenes and solid endings which feature several images and plenty of dialogue for each character (the ones who have an ending that is). Haohmaru and Hanzo are the only familiar characters to return.
Perhaps one of the crimes of this game is not having Nakoruru as a playable character... instead she is just a story character in this one folks.
