Governor BS Koshyari on Monday rejected Shiv Sena’s appeal to get 3 more days to stake claim to form the government. After meeting Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray, Governor Koshyari called NCP leader Ajit Pawar, inviting him to stake claim to form the government in Maharashtra. Congress and NCP on their own do not have the required majority to form government in Maharashtra. Nearly two-and-a-half weeks after the Maharashtra election results were announced, the state has no government. On Sunday, the Maharashtra deadlock seemed a little closer to resolution as the BJP said that it would not be forming the government in the western state. Hours after the BJP declined to form government in Maharashtra on Sunday, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Sunday night asked the Shiv Sena to "indicate the willingness and ability" of the party to stake a claim, which the Sena did on Monday evening. Shiv Sena has said they are holding talks with NCP and Congress. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra BJP core committee headed by caretaker Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also met in Mumbai on Monday. The fast-paced developments seem to have increased the bargaining power of opposition Congress and NCP, as the Sena, which has 56 MLAs, is far away from the halfway mark of 145.
