Dr. Seong-Hyon Lee is Senior Fellow at the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations and also Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies. He is the former Director of the Center for Chinese Studies at Sejong Institute and also its Director for the Department of Unification Studies.
He lived in Beijing for 11 years. He is fluent in Korean, Chinese and English and gave lectures and talks in these languages.
He is a graduate from Grinnell College, Harvard University, and Tsinghua University (Ph.D). He was a Pantech Fellow at Stanford University (APARC), Salzburg Global Fellow, and James A. Kelly Korean Studies Fellow (non-resident) of Pacific Forum CSIS, and ICAS Fellow.
He delivered the popular JTBC television's Distinguished Lecture (차이나는 클라스) on “the U.S.-China relations.” He is the author of the book, “The U.S.-China competition: Who will rule the world?" ISBN: 979-11-6416-009-9. His research areas include International Relations of East Asia, with a focus on China, North Korea, South Korea, and U.S. Relations with these nations.
He spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Harvard Kennedy School, U.S. Congress, Stanford University, RAND Corporation, University of Pennsylvania, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Hudson Institute, Asia Society, German Marshall Fund, Stimson Center, and the National Assembly. He briefed South Korean presidential candidates and lawmakers on China.
His interviews & comments appeared at New York Times, BBC, Bloomberg, CNN, Barron’s, Los Angeles Times, PBS NewsHour, South China Morning Post, Nikkei Asia, Japan Times, JoongAng Ilbo, and Straits Times.
