The Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL Flash for Nikon represents a significant breakthrough in speedlight power technology with the introduction of full R2 Remote TTL connectivity and interaction with all Nikon strobe functions. From standard iTTL, to Exposure Compensation (FEC), FV Lock, High Speed Sync, and an automatically zooming flashhead, all the way to complete iTTL control connectivity with other Nikon flashes, group control, Slave and Master options, and advanced flash functions, the Zoom Li-on flash takes you as far as you want to go.
The R2 TTL Wireless Flash System is the advanced 2.4GHz radio remote that adds camera TTL dedicated custom functions to your multi flash experience. Easy to use buttons command a full range of functions like reliable channel triggering, group mode selectivity, HSS, with powerful signal strength and exceptional stability to your selected camera flash language. The LCD panel clearly displays the status of all remote R2 compliant strobes so you always have control of group lighting setup. R2 wireless communication gives speed of light response to on camera or off camera R2 family devices for a spectacular advantage on the shoot in any environment.
The other massive advantage is the internal and interchangeable Lithium Ion Polymer battery with exponentially more power than AA batteries of any type, while fitting into roughly the same amount of space. Packing an amazing 11.1 volts and 2000mAh, this battery can power your flash longer and with faster recycle than any shoe mount speedlight on the market. Full power recycle times are less than 1.5 seconds, even if you fire 5 full power shots in fast succession! One completely charged battery can deliver up to 650 of those full power shots. Even in iTTL mode, you can try to drain the battery, but the Zoom Li-on keeps on going strong .
The key component that makes this new flash stand apart from others is the proprietary TTL and HSS enabled 2.4GHz R2 Radio Remote System radio triggers transmits atop a Nikon body with the essential TTL pass-through and laser AF assist and works with the complete family of Flashpoint Speedlights, Monolights and Strobe lights with R2 TTL radio transceiver built right in.
All the R2 enabled family communicate seamlessly: the lithium powered Zoom Li-on Nikon, Canon and Sony TTL speedlights, the Zoom AA alkaline powered speedlight, the fantastic Streaklight 360 TTL barebulb strobes (each available in Nikon, Sony and Canon as well as manual), and the portable 600ws XPLOR600 TTL or manual monolights. Other strobes can be fired and controlled off camera while being attached to the R2 Radio Remote Receiver FPRRR2RN to grace remote link to earlier models.
The R2 system provides a full proprietary GR Group style interface allowing up to 5 Groups to be individually set to either TTL, Manual, or Off and, most importantly, TTL and Manual Groups can be conveniently mixed together as needed. The lithium battery powered units provide TTL, HSS (High Speed Sync) and even a HSS pre-sync timing adjustment for precision synchronization. PC cord sync input ports are provided for external device remote sync without control. R2-N receivers are compatible with Nikon CLS system speedlights like the Nikon SB-910, SB-900, or SB700.
Besides Nikon iTTL and manual control, there are 2 optical slave modes, and a stroboscopic mode as well. The metal shoe features a locking pin, so even if the foot is not tightened properly it will not accidentally fall off of the camera or mount. Remote power control using a Flashpoint R2 System Transmitter or R2 Family flash allows you to view and change your flash output as you shoot as well as trigger the flash and adjust other functions from more than 150 feet away, for extreme off camera work.
The simple layout and familiar controls make using this flash intuitive. The flashhead rotates 180 degrees in any direction and tilts over 90 degrees for any type of bounce or modifier use. The head zooms automatically or manually from 24-200mm, to ensure the necessary coverage without wasted spill. The built-in pull out wide angle diffuser spreads light evenly to 14mm for use with lenses wider than 24mm.
With a charge time of just 2.5 hours and enough juice to run you through even the most difficult shoots, (and extra batteries available,) this high powered, speedy recycling, compact and durable Lithium Ion battery powered iTTL flash is sure to become a pivotal part of your photography equipment lineup.
