Desktop electronic magnifiers have screens up to 24 inch (measured diagonally) and are the ultimate low vision reading aid - where space permits! The sliding tray under the screen and camera facilitates smooth left to right reading at the highest magnifications (around 25 x in this video). Note how the elderly reader (she has macular degeneration, which affects fine central vision) gets stuck on unfamiliar words, or where letters are confusable. Also, note how she has to get used to the back/forward motion of the tray, as well as control the left/right panning. With practice, this will become second nature.
