Rumor has it that Toyota has been hinting about a little SUV based on the venerable Land Cruiser. Called the Land Hopper, this fresh model should first show in 2025. Although official specifics are rare, leaked pictures and insider knowledge have given us some idea of what to expect.
The outside of the Land Hopper combines contemporary and tough looks. Though with more rounded corners and a sleeker profile, it has a boxy form akin to the Land Cruiser. One finds a big grille flanked by bright headlights dominating the front fascia. Pressed wheel arches and a high ground clearance define the side profile. Clean and orderly, the rear end features LED taills and a clear Toyota insignia.
The Land Hopper stands out mostly for its off-road capacity. It is supposed to have cutting-edge four-wheel-drive systems with low-range gearings and locking differentials. Most likely, the suspension is set for off-road performance as well as for on-road comfort. The Land Hopper is also said to have a high approach angle, departure angle, and break-over angle, therefore enabling it to negotiate difficult terrain.
Under the hood, a range of engine choices is supposed to drive the Land Hopper. Probably the base choice is a naturally aspirated gasoline engine since it strikes a mix between fuel economy and performance. Those looking for more power or better fuel economy might also find a diesel or a turbocharged gasoline engine.
