The INSAT-3DS onboard the GSLV-F14 successfully launched from SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota on February 17, 2024, at 17:35 Hrs. IST. In its 16th mission, the GSLV deployed the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
On January 25, 2024, ISRO's meteorological marvel INSAT-3D successor, INSAT-3DS, after successfully completing sequential completion of satellite assembly, integration, and testing activities at U.R. Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, was flagged for the launch.
The INSAT-3DS satellite has the primary objective of elevating the INSAT system capabilities, and an extension to the existing in-orbit INSAT-3D and 3DR satellites. Built around ISRO's reliable I-2k bus platform, INSAT-3DS is a Ministry of Earth Science-funded project with a lift-off mass of 2,275 kg. The satellite is equipped with 6-channel imagers and 19-channel sounders, meteorological payloads for enhanced observations.
