University of Liverpool Evolutionary Anthropology Webinar Series: Thursday 9th of December 2021
Dr Heidi Colleran, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, on "Demography, culture and the cultural evolution of reproducion"
Abstract: Demography is an important focal point for research in cultural evolution. But the micro-level mechanisms that generate macro-level population structures remain surprisingly understudied. Research on reproductive decisions at the individual level in turn tends to downplay the role of culture in shaping these decisions. In this talk I will highlight some work that tries to bridge these divides. I will show how a multilevel, co-evolutionary approach to these questions can shed new light on the dynamics of fertility in the past, as well as the present.
Hosted by Lucy Timbrell, PhD student in Archaeology at the University of Liverpool.
