With a little set-up, FME's NetworkTopologyCalculator can be used to mimic traces on ESRI's geometric networks with efficiency and transparency, just by using the spatial coincidence of features. This can be time-saving when you need the results of thousands of traces all at once. Also, it allows you to overcome data problems where connectivity may be erroneously broken and to trace easily on networks which lack proper digitized directions.
This example will show how to find affected customers "downstream" of gas fittings scheduled for replacement on a geometric network that does not have flow direction set-up.
