A U-S combat unit set up the first checkpoint in the Posavino corridor in Bosnia on Tuesday.
The Posavino corridor was one of the most contested regions in northern Bosnia controlled by the Serbs.
The U-S troops form part of the advance guard of 20-thousand U-S IFOR troops due to move into this northeastern area of Bosnia.
An American armored combat unit rolled into the Bosnian countryside Tuesday after crossing the Sava River forming the border between Croatia and Bosnia.
Their mission was to start building up the U-S presence in the Posavino corridor, formerly a front line area.
The troops began securing the Serb-held territory without any incidents.
Mines present the most danger for the moment.
A site was chosen where the U-S troops began working on setting up a checkpoint now to be known as "Checkpoint Cadillac" .
20-thousand American troops will soon be stationed in this part of Bosnia to enforce the Dayton peace agreement.
