Today cassette carnage ends, with a fucking rager of USBM from the crypt of California! Known as,"Chronaexus" and I gave their debut full length album a listen on Tape,"Outreach From A Withered Hand".
Two of the three members of this project also play in the funeral doom band,"LYCUS" as well as their drummer blasting away in death dealers"Slaughterbox"!
But what we have here is eight tracks clocking in around 56 minutes and 45 seconds of atmospheric killer US black metal with a Second Wave Black Metal Swedish vibe to it. I was instantly hooked by the haunting vibe, riffs, and just the overall sound of the album was great. If you didn't know any better this could've came from the land of Dissection,or just by looking at the artwork you could be thinking this is a band on ,"Deathwish Inc" based on the Jacob Bannon/Converge-You Fail Me styled artwork. If you are judging a book by its cover this is definitely not the album to do it on just look at the bands logo on the actual tape it's next to unreadable so you know you're getting some fire! (Hopefully) in this case this album kicked my ass even the solos were great and not out of place. The overall appeal of this album exists in every track but especially on,"Still Of The Colossal" which is just wow. So if you are interested in some black metal from California that cares more about creating atmosphere with riffs over electronics or just love Swedish black metal from the early 90s you were going to love this album hell I love this album!
