I show how I cleaned the fuel pump pre-filter (also called a screen, strainer or sock) and solved a significant engine problem of power loss at high torque or RPMs on my 2007 Toyota Prado. Dirty fuel, over the years, can create a sludge build up on the fuel pump pre-filter. With a dirty pre-filter, the pump cannot suck in a sufficient amount of fuel for high torque demand such as hill climbing or passing. Almost all the information I found (forums and videos) only suggested “replacement” of the fuel pump. Very few suggest the possibility of cleaning the pump pre-filter. In my case, due to non-availability of parts, replacement was not an option.
Thanks to other helpful YouTube and forum contributions. With their help, I made this video to tell how I solved a significant engine problem related to the fuel pump.
