The 818 uses a Subaru transmission as a transaxle by converting it to front wheel drive only and using the front wheel outputs to drive the rear wheels. Subaru 5mt's are known to be weak, however there's different versions, some considered stronger than others. Those that have raced an 818 report that transmission temps get quite high, 220-240f measured on the case. I decided that in order to get the most out of my 5mt, I would install a transmission cooler to increase capacity and lower temps.
This is my Factory Five Racing 818S, dubbed a 818 SRX, derived from using the 818R aero and a rotary engine from a RX-7. It's a mid-engined JDM 13B-REW (series 7) with a Borg Warner 8374 single turbo mated to a '99 Subaru STI RA 5 speed gearbox driving the rear wheels. The engine is tuned with a AEM Infinity ECU and CD-7 dash. The body has been widened approximately 4" in the back and 2.5" in the front and runs sticky 245 & 305 Nitto NT01's.
