Few days ago, I rearranged my dawless setup to fit all four Roland boutiques (SE-02, JU-06a, JX-08 and JD-08). I got the JU and the JD recently, so I had to include them in my rig. I also had to put my TR-8s close to the Keystep Pro for better control as I always mute/unmute tracks on both, so they need to sit together!
Once the setup was ready, I started to work on a new idea and came up with this deep melodic house track. It’s far from perfect, even though it took me around three days to prepare the jam. It seemed pretty simple at the beginning but once I started recording, I realized that it is still hard for me to nail it down in the first attempt, and I still struggle with pressing all the buttons correctly, hehe! So much coordination is needed!
Anyway, my main purpose was to show off the JU-06a and the JD-08 a bit. As you probably realized, the JU-06a plays the bassy lead which is a slightly modified stock patch (#1-2). For the JD-08 I made the patch from scratch and it’s the melodic lead that seconds the JU. I used the JX-08 for the pitched sound and the SE-02 as a sub-bass. All drums and the vocal sample come from the TR-8s. Regarding the FX, the JU-06a and the Microfreak run through their respective Zoom MS-70CDR pedals. The JX and the JD uses onboard effects, which, by the way, are great! Finally, the four boutiques are sequenced using the KSP. It’s worth to mention that I’m using the external input of the TR-8s for applying the sidechain effect to all the synths so the synths and drums are all mixed together within the TR. The TR output is sent to the Alesis Nanocompressor to give the mix some punch!
Hope you enjoy this one and as always, make sure to listen with headphones!
