Heating effect of electric current
The heating effect of electric current plays an important role in home appliances and several industrial purposes. Instruments like electric iron, electric stove, electric cooker, electric kettle, soldering iron, electric boilers etc converts electrical energy into heat energy.
Let’s do an activity to study the heating effect of electricity.
Take an Aluminium wire and a Nichrome wire of nearly the same length and thickness. Connect both of them to a 6V battery in series .What will be the result after the passage of electricity through it? Nichrome wire heated up into red hot. Even if the same current is passing through the aluminium and nichrome wires, the nichrome wire heats more. What is the reason? This is due to the high resistance of the nichrome wire.
