Government has described gender based violence as a national crisis.
More than 30 women were killed in August 2019 alone. Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and Justice Minister Ronald Lamola made a joint statement on Tuesday. They say stronger interventions are needed as the country reels from the high numbers of women being killed.
People including those on social media are holding vigils and circulating petitions to highlight the issue.
