Vijayawada: As part of the conclusion to the Dasara festivities, the state govt is hosting a grand event called 'Shakti Vijayotsavam'.
This three-day celebration will be held at Punnami Ghat, Vijayawada, starting Friday evening. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, accompanied by his family, will attend the event, which aims to highlight the state's cultural grandeur and honor women's contributions in various sectors.
The state govt has declared the Dasara festival at the Kanaka Durga Temple as a state festival. This year, Vijayawada, particularly the Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri hill, has been adorned with decorative lights, showcasing the city's festive spirit. In an effort to elevate the festival's splendor, the Shakti Vijayotsavam will include a variety of unique spectacles.
A key highlight will be the drone show featuring 500 drones, adding a modern touch to the traditional celebration. Additionally, ten avatars of Goddess Kanakadurga will be paraded on specially decorated boats along the Krishna River, creating a mesmerizing visual display. The event will also showcase classical dance forms such as Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Kathakali, along with ancient martial arts performances.
In a special gesture, the state government will honor women excelling in various fields, recognizing their outstanding contributions. The event is expected to attract a large crowd, with the NTR district administration estimating around 50,000 attendees. Officials are currently distributing passes to ensure smooth access for the public.
Meanwhile, on the auspicious occasion of Durgashtami, thousands of devotees gathered at Vijayawada's Kanaka Durga Temple to witness the goddess in her powerful form of Kanaka Durga. This marked a key moment in the ongoing Dasara Navaratri festivities, with special pujas being conducted throughout the day.
Devotees thronged the temple on Thursday, eager to offer prayers and seek blessings of the goddess during this revered festival.
It is widely believed that worshiping Kanaka Durga on this day brings protection and bravery, warding off fear of enemies. Hundreds of devotees participated in the saffron puja from early morning, with moderate crowds forming in the queue lines.
Thousands of Bhavani devotees from Srikakulam and Vizianagaram areas have began their
pilgrimage on foot, planning to reach the temple by Vijayadashami. After their visit, they will take up the Bhavani Diksha. Temple authorities and donors have come forward to ensure all necessary arrangements for these pilgrims.
As Dasara nears its conclusion, preparations are in full swing for the Hamsa Vahana Tatvatsava, which will take place on Vijayadashami evening. A large crowd is expected at Durga Ghat for the evening aarti.
On Friday, the ninth day of the celebrations, the goddess will appear in her Mahishasura Mardini form, offering devotees a divine Devi Alankaram darshan.
