This recently purchased Kill-A-Watt has a cool, custom little shunt inside! And by "cool" and "custom" I mean that it's not actually good at all. Things just sort of go south after a bit.
So a slight explanation that I failed to mention in the video:
With the solder removed, resistance is a tiny bit higher and the measured voltage across the main shunt would read a little bit higher than it originally did. That's why the measured amperage and wattage reads higher than it should. It explains the discrepancy between the multimeter and the KAW even though input voltage reading didn't change at all.
Apparently this is just another thing in this seemingly endless streak of bad luck, ha!
